Sailors look forward to training Regatta Sept 16/17

Excitement is building for the arrival of Eddie Cox from Melges to run the first M15 training regatta. Eddie has been running the Melges15 program for Melges, from testing and refining the prototype, creating all the class training videos and winning many of the Melges15 events sailed so far.  Having dialed into many zoom calls over last Winter, the Irish sailors are looking forward to finally meeting him in person.

The White Bear Yacht Club sailor from Minnesota will be running the training regatta at the Royal Saint George Yacht Club next weekend, September 16/17. This training should help all sailors get up to speed for the inaugural Melges 15 Irish national championships a few weekends later in October 7/8.

With a demo boat available and boats in stock, interested sailors should reach out to MelgesIreland.com to learn more about how they could be involved.

Meanwhile, mid-week Wednesday racing continued on Dublin bay. A strong ebb tide was no barrier in preventing a 7 race program of windward leeward races. Father and son duo, Peter and David Williams took the first race of the evening before husband-and-wife Mike Huang and Scotia Ryer started to show their form.  In tight racing their ability to get the asymmetric filling quicker than anyone else was a consistent factor in pulling through the fleet despite the occasional average start. They weren’t to have it their own way though with siblings Kate and Morgan Lyttle pushing hard and taking some wins.  Morgan who had spent the Summer instructing Adults on a Melges15 fleet in Nantucket was happy to share some of his learnings.
